Employer Responsibilities

Employers help to ensure the financial security of our nation’s children by working cooperatively with the child support program. Employers have seven broad areas of responsibility when it comes to staying in compliance with child support state and federal laws:

  • Report newly hired and re-hired individuals
  • Respond to verification of employment requests
  • Withhold income (garnishment of wages)
  • Submit mandated payments
  • Comply with medical support notices
  • Notify child support prior to issuing lump sum payments
  • Report terminated employees

Cooperation of employers directly improves the lives of Wisconsin families. We have several resources and tools to help you to meet your responsibilities to the program.
